New Race Circuits Launched for the Calvià’s Galatzó Trail in 2022
If you’re up for a challenge in March and don’t mind a bit of travel, why not take a look at Calvià’s Galatzó Trail. This mountain marathon takes you through some quite incredible landscapes and will undoubtedly get the blood pumping!
On March 13, 2022, the 5th annual Galatzó Trail will occur. It is an international mountain race on the Galatzó Public Estate that takes you through the Tramuntana Mountain range, where you’ll get to experience some quite eye-popping landscapes. And, if you didn’t know, the area has also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape.
The race comprises of two challenges, one part being the Galatzó Legend which is 43 km, and the other is the 23 km Galatzó Half.
The organisers have been working tirelessly to make the event the best it possibly can be by ensuring it is adapted to the needs of all the participants.
This year, entrants will encounter new and improved race circuits, which will be ready for March. If you want to enter the mountain marathon, entry prices are around 45 to 50 Euros and include the race kit.
The Changes to the 43 km Galatzó Legend route
Thanks to the restoration of “Camí de sa Font Nova”, an old road with a spectacular view of the Finca de Galatzó Public Estate, it has been possible to create an enhanced circuit that is still equally as challenging as the old one. The hilly nature of the final stretch in Ses Planes has been scrapped, replaced by a path with picturesque views of the Majorcan countryside on a more forgiving terrain.
Changes to the route of Galatzó Half (23 KM)
The new Galatzó Half marathon is perfect for those who want to try mountain marathons for the first time. The track will feature a more scenic route to previous years and is increasingly challenging and technical in response to participants’ comments. The changes in the circuit for 2022 allow participants to scale one of the island’s iconic peaks amongst the Serra de Tramuntana, Sa Mola de s’Esclop (927 m).
All of this has been made possible is by reversing the direction of the route. The change introduces some new areas to the itinerary, including the historical path of Pas des Cosi. The change also helps to contribute towards Majorca’s sustainability initiatives by reducing the erosion of the natural landscape.
An international challenge with local flavour
The Galatzó Trail is an event that allows participants to fully enjoy the experience of competing as an athlete on the island, no matter what level of their ability.
In addition to the track running through the iconic Majorcan countryside and the nutritious produce offered at the refreshment stations, the race includes stops where participants can sample some typical Majorcan cuisine, including Ensaimadas and sobrasada or coca de trampó, among many others. The event will be organised by over 100 volunteers who all belong to local sports clubs in the region. Even the branding, merchandising, and race kits contain an ode to the territory.
The overall aim is for every participant to appreciate Majorca from the beginning to the end.
