A First Look at the Lacoste Run Spin Ultra GTX Trainers

Head out in the Lacoste Run Spin Ultra GTX Hiking Trainers

The famous French brand associated deeply with Tennis, Lacoste, is seeking to enter the growing hiking footwear market with their Run Spin Ultra GTX trainers. The Hiking Bug looks at these stylish trainers to see if they will ‘serve’ you well.

Sports brands have cottoned on to the growing leisure pursuit of Hiking, and they are producing many styles of footwear to accommodate participants. As Paul described previously in his article on Hiking Boots, it is paramount that you choose the right product to place on your feet, or you will not enjoy the walk and even risk damaging your feet.

Lacoste has now taken strides into the hiking and walking environment by partnering with GORE-TEX to create the Run Spin Ultra GTX trainer. The design is labelled waterproof and windproof due to the GORE-TEX membrane, which allows your feet to breathe and keep dry and warm.

A close up look at the trainers

The trainers have a snug sock-like fit, thanks to an extended vamp. The construction gives a lightweight feel, and the extended vamp means fewer pressure points. This provides the ultimate comfort and no irritation, allowing you to engage in long hikes.

Although Lacoste is targeting the extremely popular hiking market, the trainers are at first glance more suited to casual walking as they don;t offer the ankle protection needed for long hikes over variable terrain.

The laces are topped with innovative silicon “laces pods” for extra protection, ensuring no rubbing. A padded heel clip helps secure the foot in place, while toe protection shields the foot.

The Run Spin Ultra GTX is a peak-performance model infused with Lacoste’s innovative spirit, made using lightweight, breathable, water-resistant Gore-Tex technology and a Pebax plate in the midsole. The sculpted Goodyear outsole cushions the foot from impact and ensures a firm grip across multiple surfaces and conditions.

Highlights of the Lacoste Run Spin Ultra GTX include:

  • Textile uppers
  • Rubber outsole
  • Textile linings
  • Green crocodile on the quarter
  • Reflective hits for after-dark runs
  • 100% Textile

Available at Sweatshop or Lacoste online for £160. For more information about the Lacoste Run Spin GTX, please visit https://www.lacoste.com.
